Summary:

The Resident Physician, under the supervision of the Program Director, provides safe, effective, and compassionate patient care in line with education and experience. Responsibilities include participating in educational and scholarly activities, teaching and supervising residents and medical students, and engaging in a personal program of self-study and professional growth. The Resident Physician participates in institutional programs, committees, and activities, adhering to organizational policies, and contributing to program evaluation. Additionally, the role requires developing an understanding of ethical, socioeconomic, and medical legal issues, applying cost containment measures, maintaining accurate records, and adhering to ACGME requirements and those of affiliated training sites.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Under the supervision of the Program Director, assumes responsibilities for the safe, effective and compassionate care of patients, consistent with level of education and experience.

  • Participates fully in the educational and scholarly activities of the residency program and, as required, assumes responsibility for teaching and supervising other residents and medical students.

  • Develops and participates in a personal program of self-study and professional growth with guidance from the teaching staff.

  • Participates in institutional programs, committees, councils, and activities involving the medical staff as assigned by the program director, and adhere to the established policies, procedures, and practices of the sponsoring organization and its affiliated institutions.

  • Participates in the evaluation of the program and its faculty.

  • Develops an understanding of ethical, socioeconomic, and medical legal issues that affect the practice of medicine.

  • Applies cost containment measures in the provision of medical care.

  • Keeps charts, records, and reports up-to-date and signed at all times.

  • Adheres to ACGME Institutional and Program Requirements and to the requirements of affiliated training sites.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Certifications/Qualifications

  • Doctorate within specified field of medical practice from respective accredited school.

  • Must be admissible to sit for either the Canadian or American Board or be certified by the Canadian Board and are members of either the Royal College of Physicians or Royal College of Surgeons, American board certification or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) board certification. Board certification exam is highly encouraged to be taken during third year of training.

  • Be legally licensed as a resident to practice medicine in North Dakota.
